Treadmill Side Shuffle w Squat

This motion works at slower or higher speeds. Start with your belt moving approximately 1.5-2.5 mph. Step slightly wider than shoulder width and drop into a squat. Allow your (back) foot to move toward the back of the belt for a moment prior to initiating the next rep. I teach these techniques to clients separately prior to integrating them. I begin with the backpeddle which I teach slowly (usually beginning with a speed of 2.1-2.5 mph). When my client becomes proficient at the backpeddle, I teach them to turn into a forward walk. Once they master the backpeddle I move into teaching the side shuffle. This movement is typically learned at 3-3.5 mph. It is crucial to not cross the feet. You must work this toe to toe or risk tangling your feet and risk being thrown off the belt. These techiniques are really good for keeping treadmill work fun. The cross-training challenge can be an excellent calorie burner too.
