Seated Neck Extension (machine)
Extension of the neck not only involves strengthening the muscles behind your head and in the upper back, but also serves as a means of stretching the muscles in front. These muscles (scalene, sternocleodmastiod, etc.) are typically overly tight and may cause the head to be drawn forward which can lead to problems in the shoulder and neck. Seat back should be set to support your spine and keep you in place throughout range of motion. Height of the seat should place the center of head pad in the middle of the back of your head. Keep you chest up and eyes forward not allowing pad to push your head past neutral position as you lower the weight. Take care not to use heavy loads as this can affect alignment of the cervical vertebra.
